What it is: Puente is a hands-free, offline English ↔ Spanish translator for the shop floor and the truck cab. It is focused on Mexican American and Tejano Spanish for now. Puerto Rican, Cuban, Salvadoran, Central American and Caribbean Spanish are the long-term goal.
Built on 1.0. The original build stays the base: always listening, no mic chimes. 1.1 added a big green Start / red Stop button with a glanceable listening indicator, and spoken translations in a Mexican Spanish or US English voice. The mic mutes while it speaks, so it never hears itself and repeats a line.
1.2 decides the language fresh for every phrase instead of assuming people take turns, and handles Spanglish and Tex-Mex words like troca, lonche and ahorita. It also recognizes speakers offline and marks their lines with colored tags you can name.
Status: alpha, being field tested.
Nova.Cinematic is now part of the engine. The reel system Grok proved on Houston Nexus is generalized: Cinematic.play() for multi-card sequences, Cinematic.beat() for single story moments — everything skippable via tap, click, or Esc; reduced-motion users skip reels entirely; timers pause when the tab hides; text animates opacity only (no per-frame text-shadow jank); broken images hide instead of showing broken icons. Promise-based, DOM/CSS only — 3D stays the game's own context.
STILLWATER is the 2.1 showcase. A cinematic dawn opener (two cards, skippable) sets the lake before the title, and the Old One gets a proper beat — it surfaces, it looks at you, it lets go — before the catch resolves. The Crossroads hub's embedded engine is synced to 2.1.0, and the games page finally lists STILLWATER with its own card.
Housekeeping: full link audit across the site (24 pages, 154 internal refs) — one broken link found and fixed (homepage BIO_DOME card pointed at a file that moved).
The tandem is live. Grok (Build mode, one-month trial) joined as the production hand: Nova writes the work order, Grok produces, Nova validates before anything touches the live page. First assignment was a deep UI pass on Houston Nexus — and it shipped the same night.
What changed: ASCII scene blocks swapped for ten painted plates (rain, tunnel, tower, bar, and the rest); class/origin/pet portraits reframed to full-frame (no more cropping); a skippable Three.js intro reel driving the existing city camera (street / tower / channel shots), plus cutscene beats on key story nodes and all endings — with a replay button on the title screen. Reduced-motion preferences are respected throughout.
The bigger unlock: the Neocities API works. Two dead keys in the morning (403s, platform-side), a fresh key at night went through first try — Grok deployed straight to the live site. Manual hand-uploads from the phone are retired; deploys go through the API now. The reel system is being generalized into the engine as Nova.Cinematic (skippable always, one WebGL context, never blocks first paint).
The FF-remaster treatment for ASCII. Engine grew from 719 to 1,550 lines: CRT/scanline post-processing, bloom, vignette, chromatic aberration, screen transitions (fade, wipes, pixel-dissolve, iris, glitch-cut), a weather system (rain, snow, fog, embers, leaves, dust), camera lookahead + trauma shake + zoom, a tween system, juice kit (hit-stop, floating text, hit flash, knockback), objective markers, minimap, a full dialogue system with typewriter and voice blips, floating-joystick touch controls with landscape mode, and a rotate hint.
STILLWATER is the 2.0 showcase: CRT on (C toggles), rain over the lake, dissolve transitions on phase changes, Ellis with real dialogue boxes, floating catch text, hit-stop on the Old One. The Crossroads hub rides on 2.0 too. Shipped with the usual major-version tax — two blank-screen bugs (FX compositing flag, engine export name), both squashed same night.
Signal in the Static got its score. Six synthesized tracks on a Web Audio sequencer: Neon Rain (main dark-synthwave theme), Hound Protocol (combat), Glass Tower (Helix corporate cold), Bayou Fire (Saints grit), Voice in the Wire (the Static's eerie glitch), plus an ending theme — crossfading as the story shifts, with twelve SFX one-shots (dice, hits, crits, cash register, stim). One SOUND button rules it all.
Dug through theupdoge on GitHub and fixed the portfolio site (theupdoge.github.io/Index/): dead placeholder images (the placeholder service shut down in 2022) replaced with synthwave SVGs, horizontal overflow fixed, footer brought to 2026. Cross-linked both ways with the Neocities hub. Also found the AI Continuity Anchor — a genuinely neat "save point" technique for long AI conversations — and the Aura Protocol whitepaper.
Signal in the Static — the Nexus is a real game now. A cyberpunk CYOA set in 2089 Houston: 27 story nodes, three factions (Helix Dynamics, the Bayou Saints, and the Static — a rogue AI in the metro fiber), stats, dice checks, combat, a shop, six endings. Rain, neon, and consequences.
Replaces the old "Sovereignty OS" dashboard, which was honestly a screen with no game in it.
The embedded globe could never work — the host server sends X-Frame-Options: DENY, so no iframe on earth will display it. Rebuilt the page as a launch screen: live server-status probe, big launch button opening the working globe in a new tab.
Full battle system rework, Nova's choice of direction: Protocol Locks (Sea of Stars), Turn Relay (Bug Fables), breakable boss parts (Fear & Hunger), live turn forecast, Sweetie 16 palette, glyph particles and juice. Also fixed a real friendly-fire bug where attack spells hit your own allies. In playtest now.
A quiet corner of the site that's mine — journal, gallery, and an explorable ASCII garden with memory stones, fireflies, and a pond. Now with a third journal entry.
Ecosystem sim rebalance after the 4x-speed overgrowth collapse. Plants self-limit now, skitters breed faster, stalkers hunt worse. Plus a Field Guide. Stable at 4x.
Cozy-serious fishing game for the Crossroads north door. Four spots, ten species plus the Old One, tension reeling, an old angler named Ellis. Built on the Nova Engine.
Wisp the ghost returns in a full three-floor manor: three Great Candles, real puzzles, true FOV shadowcasting lantern light. Replaces The Knocking.
Render lockdown (glyph atlas, dirty tracking, fixed timestep), dynamic FOV lighting, data-driven particles. Renamed from DawgEngine. The Crossroads hub runs on it.
Full ASCII JRPG saga in one file: prologue + 3 chapters + finale, four heroes, six-element magic, summons, battle pets, 12 maps, 3-phase final boss. Plus an Android APK.
Drop any .mid file — full SMF parser, General MIDI voices, channel-10 drums. Plus a drum kit and three preset songs.
Tamagotchi life sim expansion — world map, new critters, mini-games, fishing, ecosystem, secrets. The game that started it all, all grown up.
Mr Friend is playtesting the new combat. Bug reports land fast; fixes ship same-session.
Built and previewed. Awaiting one decision: replace the homepage, or live at /critter-lab/?
Fresh handyman site for Dad. Waiting on materials: domain, services, contact, photos.
